Considering it was a wet July, it wasn’t cold so it did not stop our clients at the Princes Centre from getting out and about, what with walks, picnics, bowling, visits to the library and shops, and other outdoor activities. Staff erected a gazebo in the garden which enabled some clients to enjoy sitting outside without getting wet. The younger clients were invited to the ‘Sports for All’ at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and had a wonderful time there getting involved with netball, tennis, boxing and cycling. Thanks to our chairman an annual day trip to Littlehampton for the clients is being organised for September. Other future activities include a visit to Bomber Command.
Indoor activities included cardio-drumming which is a very popular activity, cooking sessions, the ‘Move It’ dance group, a stacking game to improve motor skills, and arts and crafts withBucks Adult Learning. Some of the clients have produced some lovely art work which will be displayed in Wades Park. Our Jinglers had a wonderful reception at St Mary’s recently and the photo shows them wearing their new outdoor jackets purchased with money in Ian’s memory. Ian was a much-loved client and member of the Jinglers who died recently. We have started Friday Hydro therapy sessions for some of the Friday clients.
The trustees continue to plan improvements for the Centre for when the Town Council moves to its new premises which are now under construction. The latest project was the replacement of the fence to the left of the premises.
We would like to acknowledge with thanks for a wonderful donation from the Roger and Jean Jefcoate Trust. Our centre has also benefitted from a donation from a client of a care company which was match-funded by the care company. All donations are greatly appreciated. We have recently been given a large certificate, personally signed by both Queen Elizabeth 11 and Prince Philip, which was sent to the late Anne Stratton when she was awarded her MBE. Anne made a number of very large donations to the Princes Centre and always wanted them to be anonymous. The certificate will hang in our centre in remembrance of her generosity.
If you or your loved one would like a free taster of what we have to offer or would like to consider volunteering at the Princes Centre, please contact our manager Kim on 01844 345105 or Mags at Bourne End 01628 527024.
