Update July 2022

29 June 2022

Charity Number 1151083

The Princes Centre clients, staff and trustees enjoyed a double celebration recently, celebrating both the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the 10th Birthday Anniversary of the Centre.

There was a full day of partying with staff dressed up as ‘land girls’. Clients from the Bourne End Centre also came and joined in. The Duchess of Cambridge, who was unfortunately unable to attend, sent a message of thanks and good wishes. It was a fantastic party and the trustees are very grateful to the staff for all their efforts. Everyone appeared to have a great time, with the food, two sessions of entertainment, dancing, and lots of laughter.

There was an accolade for the Centre in the House of Commons too when our MP Greg Smith recently spoke about the Centre celebrating ‘10 Years’. He thanked all the staff for their hard work and invited Boris, who also thanked us, to visit! Furthermore, a team from the Centre will be attending an Awards Night soon. The Centre has been shortlisted for an award and we are hoping that we will have good news.

With the better weather some of our clients have been having fun playing basketball in Wades Park whilst some of the men enjoyed their coffee outside putting the world to rights whilst others were happy to relax.

Indoors activities continue. One of the clients entertained everyone with her piano playing and everyone had a good singsong. Some clients from the Bourne End Centre came and enjoyed entertainment of the Swinging Sixties with the Rah Rah group.

New curtains for the main hall have been ordered after a problem which has caused the delay. A fitting date will be arranged shortly. An Electrician has been in to quote to replace all the light fittings here and in the Bourne End Centre with LEDs. The drainage work is currently being sorted and the solar panels will be erected on the 8th of September. Dan, a local gardener, is kindly strimming our front lawns regularly.

We have recently welcomed a new trustee, David Whittaker, to the Board of Trustees. He brings a huge amount of experience to the team and will support the Bourne End Centre as well as working on other projects in the Risborough Centre. We also have recently welcomed a new volunteer who is from Ukraine and we hope that she will enjoy her time with us as much as the clients will benefit from meeting her and enjoying the extra company.

We have our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 14th July at 6pm for 6.30 pm at the Princes Centre. All are invited to attend. Another date is the Jinglers and the Redwing Band who will be performing a Festival Concert on Friday 8th July at 10.30am in St Mary’s Church, Princes Risborough. Admission is free and there will be refreshments from 10am.

If you would like someone you care about to enjoy a free trial day at the Centre or if you are interested in volunteering opportunities at the centre please contact Kim on 01844 345105.
