July News Update

11 October 2021

The good news this month is that, with the lifting of restrictions, the centre is able to welcome the return of their volunteers, and other visitors, albeit with having to bear with the need to take a lateral flow test, sanitise their hands and wear a mask. The continued safety of our clients remains a priority.

We were very sad to hear of the recent passing of Norman Edwards, a former trustee of the Princes Centre and a very active trustee of the [now closed] Risborough Cares Charity which raised so much money to enable the purchase of the Centre for the town. His input in both charities spanned over 15 years and it is through people like Norman that this Centre continues to be so successful. They are the unsung heroes of our town.

You too have the opportunity to help the Centre through various ways. We are always ready to welcome new volunteers to share their time or their talents with our clients. If you do not feel able to offer help in this way then you might like to help with a donation to enable the clients to enjoy visits to the theatre, river boat excursions, play bowls and fund visiting entertainers etc. They have all experienced a long period without much pleasure in their lives due to covid. Our manager Kim’s phone number is below if you feel inclined to do so.

Our clients continue to enjoy a wide variety of activities. A group went out litter picking and were delighted to be treated to free ice creams, water and other snacks from local traders, and were pleased to meet other people who thanked them for their efforts. Another group went on a day trip to Southend on Sea and had a lovely time with a fish and chip lunch. Other activities include making South African Babotie [savoury dish] and baking chocolate cake, designing football kits for the Euro Cup, along with all the usual pursuits. Clients were also entertained with ‘Rock Around the Clock’ a comic musical tale set in the 50s with actors jiving and singing to all the popular tunes of that time, a wonderful trip down Memory Lane for them.

Future activities include a visit from ‘Elvis’, a trip to Legoland in September, Disability Bowls in Chesham and the pottery sessions will be restarting in September.

We are very grateful for the continued support everyone shows for the Centre.

If you wish to offer help in any way once the restrictions are eased or are interested in your loved ones to come and have a free taste of what is offered at the Centre, please contact Kim our manager on 01844 345 105.
